Military Reunions…Why We Wrote We Serve Too!2 A Child’s Reunion Book

January 29, 2010

I found this video posted on Military Avenue, and just needed to put it up. Reunions are about parents and children, grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles finally getting to hug that special person they have been missing. It brought tears as I recalled the times we welcomed home our own soldier. The banners made by my grandchildren that said “Welcome Home Daddy!”

When Paula and I created Book 2 , on Reunion, we wanted something that would last. A book that would not just be a story, but your story. One that parents and children could read and say “yeah, I felt that way too.” We are proud to be able the offer it to Military Families.
Reunion is joyful, but not always easy. Many adjustments must be made. Parents have to reassert authority, children have to learn that things are now different. Schedules change, room must be made for the one who has been away. Spouses must work together, when it might seem easier to “do it myself”.
Reunions can be easier, if everyone knows that it will take some patience and work.

We dedicate this book to all of you who have made the sacrifices this nation requires. We can never thank you enough!

Using Everyday Events to Connect Kids…Making Deployment a Time of Growth for Young Children

January 12, 2010

You know there are so many ways to help kids stay connected. The problem is that as adults, we have to take time at the end of a tiring day and then find more energy to apply some creative connections for our kids and our deployed loved ones.
How do we get the energy, the drive and the ideas to all come together and be more than good intentions? Doing things as part of a normal day may help.

As you make those cookies for the FRG group, or the church potluck, let the kids make a few extra batches to send to Dad. While you are busy doing bills, give the kids crayons and markers to make creations worthy of decorating a barracks.

Get others onboard. If the kids see grandma once a week, maybe she would not mind helping the kids write a letter, even the teacher may be persuaded that a letter writing session to Dad is a valuable learning time, and once a week could be swapped for another similar homework assignment.

Video the karate lesson, swimming lesson, or other activity to share with the parent deployed…you have to sit there anyhow!

Need some relief from being the only parent in the house? Ask your deployed spouse to read a story on tape or before deployment make a small library of videos of him reading a story to the kids. Pop these in when you just have to get a quiet moment.
The kids will love you for it.

Make a list of everyday things you do and see if you can pair them up with some ways to connect the kids with the one who they are missing. It will make it a little easier for all of you!

Military Chaplains not able to pray in the name of Jesus? Why is this even a question?

I am wondering if I am the only one who cannot figure this one out.

America, the land of the free, is still having a debate about whether or not, Military Chaplains can end a prayer in Jesus name?

Military Chaplains, those who have been called of the Lord, to provide comfort, spiritual direction and hope to our brave Military, are being persecuted for thier faith. HR268 is a bill introduced by Congressman Walter Jones from North Carolina. Why should a Chaplain that is praying over an injured comrade or the body of a fallen soldier, censor the Name of the One who brings comfort and healing? If this is a Christian chaplain, then certainly even non-Christians can all can agree that he should pray in the name of his God! Check into what is being said, click here:

You can listen to the broadcast , then ask yourself if this should even be an issue? Apparently this has been going on for quite awhile. President Bush did nothing to help, so now President Obama is being asked to make a difference. I pray he will. This is an issue of freedom of religious expression and of the Truth. Jesus cannot be separated from Christianity! Thank you to those bringing HR 268 to the attention of the nation. The rights of our Military Chaplains, the soldiers, marines ,airmen and sailors are being held hostage. No Chaplain should ever have to ask forgiveness to God for what men say he cannot do. That is NOT American!
